Department of Plastic Surgery starts UPAPSICON-2019

Aligarh: The Department of Plastic Surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in collaboration with the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India started the two-day UPAPSICON-2019 on Friday with greetings from Shri Venkaiah Naidu, Honorable Vice President of India.

“The Vice President extends his congratulations and greetings to the organizers and the participants and wishes the event every success,” stated Dr Prasanth Kumar Reddy, Private Secretary to the Vice President of India in a special message to the organisers of the programme.

Attending the inaugural function at the JNMC auditorium as the Chief Guest, AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Akhtar Haseeb remarked that the conference is a great opportunity for young resident surgeons to learn from the experiences of renowned plastic surgeons from across the country.

“The conference will provide in-depth knowledge to the participants through useful discussions on recent advances in plastic surgery,” said Prof Haseeb.

The Guest-of-Honour, Ms Mamta Carroll, Vice President and Regional Director, Asia, Smile Train Project, USA shared the wisdom she had gathered over her years of experience, emphasizing the importance of determination, resilience and compassion needed to provide safe and convenient treatment for children born with clefts, particularly from the down trodden sections.

Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui, Principal and CMS, JNMC emphasised how, with state-of-art technology and facilities, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery procedures are becoming more advanced each year.

Prof Rakesh Bhargava, Officiating Dean, Faculty of Medicine said, “It is hoped that this conference will provide a platform to plastic surgeons of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarkhand and other neighbouring states for interaction amongst themselves and learned faculty from all over the country.”

“The number of surgical and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures is steadily rising every year and it is imperative for surgeons to be updated in the latest advancements related to all aspects of plastic surgery,” emphasised Prof Imran Ahmad, Organising Chairman of Conference.

It is heartening to see the achievements of the Department of Plastic Surgery in JNMC since its inception, said Dr Adarsh Kumar, Secretary, Society of Plastic Surgeons of UP and UK adding that participants will hugely benefit from the scientific content and latest techniques discussed in the conference.

On the occasion, Prof Arun Kumar Singh, HOD, Plastic Surgery, KGMU, Lucknow delivered Prof R N Sharma memorial oration; while Dr Asif Masood, Smile Train Project Director and Dr Hari Venkatramani, Senior Consultant, Department of Plastic and Trauma Reconstructive Surgery, Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore delivered the Prof M H Khan and Prof S K Bhatnagar memorial orations respectively.

Prof F M Tripathi, Dr S P Bajaj and Prof L M Bariar were conferred with the Life Time Achievement Awards.

Prof A H Khan, Organising Secretary of the Conference proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Tushar Patil and Dr Aditi Sharma conducted the programme.
