Department of Social Work, AMU Organises 28th Orientation Programme

 

Aligarh : The Department of Social Work, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organized an orientation programme of one week duration for the newly admitted MSW students, to orient them with the field work practicum.

During the 28th orientation session, resource persons from administration, academia and social organizations apprised the students of the fundamentals of social work profession, and familiarized them with the realm of university life from academia to social activities including course requirements, satisfactory progress, reference materials, disciplinary procedures and the university culture.

Presiding over the inaugural session, Prof Abdul Alim, Dean Students’ Welfare and Chief Vigilance Officer, AMU emphasized the significance of capacity building in social workers and the implementation of the National Education Policy-2020 that focuses on skilling and capacity building.

Addressing the students, the chief guest, Prof Mohd Mohsin Khan, Finance Officer, AMU highlighted the concern of the present-day scenario of social workers and their interaction with the society. “The truth must prevail in the context of the services that social workers provide to the individuals and society”, he said.

The guest of honour, Prof Brij Bhushan Singh, Professor, Department of Physical Education and Provost, NRSC Hall, AMU related both the courses MSW and Physical Education with the same objective which is to serve the society. He motivated the students to study hard to excel in their careers.

Prof Naseem Ahmad Khan, Chairperson, Department of Social Work explained the vision and mission of the department. He informed that the department has had almost 100% placement over the years in prestigious organizations like Azim Premji Foundation, UNICEF, Zinc India Limited, Coal India Ltd., Livelihood Mission (UP and Rajasthan), and Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment etc.

He also extended thanks to the guests for sparing their valuable time for the orientation programme.

Earlier, Dr. Mohd Arif Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work welcomed the guests, faculty members, research scholars and students. He delineated the values of the social work profession which are: service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships and competence.

Dr. Mohammad Tahir, Department of Social Work proposed a vote of thanks.

Prof Azra Musavi, Director, Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, AMU, Dr. Saleem Mohammad Khan, Director, SOCH NGO, Mr. Saad Hameed, TPO-General, AMU, Dr. Quratul Aein Ali, Dr. Shyna Saif and Dr. Sameera Khanam were also present on the occasion.
