Dept. Physics organized series of “Popular Science Lectures”
Aligarh : The Physics Department of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the Indian National Young Academy of Science (INYAS), successfully organized a series of enlightening “Popular Science Lectures” on September 29th, 2023. The virtual event centered on the theme “Materials for Energy, Environment, and Sustainable Development.” The lectures garnered immense interest from participants, reflecting the timeliness and significance of the topics discussed.
Prof. Mohammad Sajjad Athar, Chairperson of the Department of Physics at AMU, in his welcome remark, highlighted the department’s illustrious history spanning over a century and its achievements.
The event featured three prominent speakers from the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, who delivered captivating lectures on critical topics:
Dr. Vishal Mishra, from the School of Biochemical Engineering at IIT (BHU) Varanasi, discussed the creation of synthetic beads from Pleurotus Florida biomass. He emphasized the efficacy of these beads in removing heavy metals, such as cadmium, lead, and chromium, from wastewater, while also inhibiting bacterial growth.
Dr. Sanjay Singh, from the School of Materials Science and Technology, explored the applications of Heusler alloys in eco-friendly refrigeration and other technological fields like magnetic refrigeration, spintronics, thermoelectricity, and magnetic shape memory.
Dr. Ashish K. Mishra, also from the School of Materials Science and Technology at IIT (BHU) Varanasi, delivered a comprehensive lecture on the synthesis and characterization of carbon and Transition Metal Dichalcogenides (TMDs) nanostructures. He elucidated their role in electrochemical energy generation and storage devices.
Dr. Jai Prakash, the Program Coordinator of INYAS, Central Zone, while conducting the proceedings, provided introduction to the event and outlined INYAS’s mission.
