Differently able students get assistive equipments

Aligarh : In a special event of the Disability Unit, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU); assistive equipments such as tricycles, pen drives, scientific calculators, wheelchairs, canes and crutches were distributed to differently able students to help them in a range of daily living tasks.

“It is hoped that these assistive equipment and devices will maintain and improve the functioning and independence of differently able students for enhancing their overall well-being”, said the Chief Guest, Prof Afifullah Khan (OSD Development).

He also quoted religious scriptures urging people to help the differently able.

Chairing the event, Dr Farrukh Hafeez (Coordinator, Disability Unit) spoke about the various Government of India schemes for the differently abled people and the work of the Disability Unit.

“Assistive equipment for differently abled people make life easier by removing barriers and by enhancing physical capabilities. These instruments will greatly improve the quality of life, optimism and mood”, said the Guest of Honour, Prof Mohammad Saleem (Chairman, Department of Sunni Theology).

Dr Abdus Samad (Assistant DSW) and Dr Khurshid Ahmed and Niyaz Ahmed from the Ahmadi School of Visually Challenged spoke on the necessity to promote the availability of appropriate devices and mobility aids.

Dr Shagufta Niyaz conducted the programme and Dr Waseem Raza Khan extended the vote of thanks.
