Director Agriculture inspects Seed Testing Laboratories at Lalmandi

SRINAGAR: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Iqbal today paid a surprise visit to the Seed testing Laboratory and Seed Pathologist Laboratory at Agriculture Complex Lalmandi, Srinagar.

Director inspected various sections of the laboratories and deliberated upon the officers to uphold the quality standards of working of labs with precision and accuracy for sustainable and remunerative agriculture.

Director Agriculture said that the department is relentlessly working in the direction to address the various issues being faced by the farming community regarding availability of quality seeds.

Director said that Seed Testing Labs are essential establishments in seed certification and seed quality control programmes. He said the role of the modern seed-testing laboratory is more than just germination tests. It allows a grower to reduce the chances of crop disease issues.

Earlier, the Director was briefed by the Seed Analyst, Farzana Tabasum that the Seed Testing Laboratory is one of its kind established in the State and the technology at the lab would help to detect seed quality. Moreover, this would benefit farmers while it will restrict the selling of fake seeds.

Besides other officers, the department Director was accompanied by Potato Development Officer Kashmir Wahid Ur Rahman.
