Eminent Translator Prof Rajiv Lochan Nath Shukla Felicitated

 

Aligarh : Prof Rajiv Lochan Nath Shukla, eminent translator and former faculty member of the Department of Hindi, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was felicitated on his seventy-fifth anniversary, in a function organized by the Rajiv Lochan Nath Shukla Abhinandan Samiti.

The chief guest of the ceremony Prof. Ashok Mittal, former Dean, Faculty of Social Science, AMU and former Vice Chancellor, Agra University described his warm relations and attachment with Prof Shukla highlighting important milestones of his life journey and his days of struggle as well.

“Prof. Rajiv Lochan Shukla always stood by his colleagues and friends in good and bad times both”, remarked Prof Mittal.

In his welcome address, Prof. Abdul Alim, Dean Students’ Welfare and former Chairperson, Department of Hindi Department, AMU described Rajiv Lochan Nath Shukla as an easy-going person. He shared interesting anecdotes and inspiring events of his bonding with Prof Shukla, emphasizing that such endearing persons have become very rare these days.

Talking about the multifaceted personality of Prof Shukla, Prof Ved Prakash from the Department of Hindi, AMU said: Prof Shukla is unconventional in his approach, vocal against superstitions and respects even his foes.

Prof. Mohd. Ashiq Ali, Chairman, Department of Hindi said that Prof. Shukla has an emotional attachment with the Aligarh Muslim University and its traditions. “People like him make the ambience joyful and worth rejoicing”, he added.

Prof Mohammad Asim Siddiqui, Chairman, Department of English discussed the academic works of Prof Rajiv Lochan Nath Shukla in detail. “In the field of translation, Prof. Rajiv Lochan Nath Shukla is a renowned figure in India. He has expertise in translation of science and literary texts and always accepts the challenges in translation work”, pointed out Prof Siddiqui.

Praising the event Professor Siddiqui further added that “the felicitation of Professor Shukla reveals his qualities as well as his colleagues in the Department and other friends when it is not unusual to forget the contribution of retired colleagues.”

Mr. Ajay Bisaria, Associate Professor, Department of Hindi, AMU shed light on some unknown aspects of Prof Shukla’s life. “Prof. Shukla pursued literature from a science background. Although he taught translation throughout his life, his attachment to the study and teaching of literature is visible in his behaviour and conduct”, he said.

Mr Rajnindra Nath Shukla, elder brother of Prof Rajiv Lochan Nath Shukla and Mrs Pratibha Shukla, his younger sister emotionally shared episodes from his family life.

Poet Mr. Suresh Kumar, Dr. Jaya Priyadarshini Shukla, Associate Professor, Department of Hindi, AMU and Mr D.K. Aggarwal also spoke on the occasion.

Prof Rajiv Lochan Nath Shukla expressed gratitude to the organizers for his felicitation ceremony and shared experiences from his poetic, translation and teaching life.

A shawl was presented to him by Prof. Prem Kumar, while Mr. Ajay Bisaria read the felicitation letter. Prof Pradeep Saxena, Prof. Reshma Begum, Prof. Masood Beg, Dr. Jaya Priyadarshini Shukla and Mrs. Farah Zia presented mementoes and bouquets to Prof Rajiv Lochan Nath Shukla and his wife Smt. Sudha Shukla.

Prof. Iffat Asghar proposed a vote of thanks.
