Freie Universitaet Berlin: A Walking Tour in Berlin-Charlottenburg

An exhibition route conceived as a walk through Berlin-Charlottenburg is intended to make people aware of the conditions of perception of a neighborhood and to reflect on the design of public space and its history. It can be visited until August 22. The four-kilometer-long course, which was designed as a walk by curators Liberty Adrien and Carina Buktus, includes nine exhibition locations, including the Cast Collection of Ancient Sculpture at Freie Universität Berlin, which reopened after the pandemic-related closure. The cast collection is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. It comprises around 2,100 casts of Greek and Roman sculptures. The cast collection is used for university teaching and research. As a museum it aims to make the sculptures of antiquity accessible to a broad public.

Other stations on the tour include the Delphi Filmpalast movie theater, the Institut Français Berlin, several advertising pillars, the Museum Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf in the Villa Oppenheim, the Small Orangerie in Schloss Charlottenburg, the traffic tower, Rathaus Charlottenburg, and the Savoy Hotel. “Chimera,” a film project by the Cypriot artist Haris Epaminondas will be shown in the Cast Collection until August 22. The experimental audiovisual travelogue shows video footage filmed in and around the California desert in 2014. Most of the footage was damaged during development. Using the rescued material together with recordings taken on various journeys, Haris Epaminondas designs installations between reality and fantasy, nature and culture, as well as light and darkness. At the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019, she was awarded the Silver Lion for her work.
