GCET Jammu organizes Webinar on “Mental Health And Suicide Prevention”

Jammu: The Start Up Cell of Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu organised a Webinar on ““Mental Health And Suicide Prevention” in collaboration with the IIT Bombay under the initiative HOPE: Healing Occurs with Positivity and Expression, one of the country’s most extensive initiatives on Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention during Techfest of IIT, Bombay.
The webinar was organised under the Chairmanship of Commissioner/Secretary Higher Education Department J&K, Talat Parvez Rohella.
Over 150 delegates comprising students and faculty of various institutions of J&K besides GCET Jammu & IIT Bombay participated in the event.
The program was dedicated to defeating mental health’s negative stigma and raising awareness about various mental health issues.
Dr. Arti Nadu, renowned Psychologist and Socialist from the NAMI(National Alliance on Mental Illness) , India was the keynote speaker.
The NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of people affected by mental illness. She talked about Mental Health awareness that has, in recent times, proved to be of utmost importance. She discussed about the various mental health issues, techniques to control the anger, changing the way to understand physical and mental health differences, guiding one’s thoughts, positively handling depression thus preventing suicide cases in society, and much more.
The participants put forth a number of questions and the entire session was very interactive, motivating and interesting.
