Global Media Defence Fund: First Call for Partnerships

The first Call for Partnerships for the Global Media Defence Fund, established at the initiative of the governments of the UK and Canada –and with additional donations from the Czech Republic, Latvia and Luxembourg–, is now OPEN.

Within the framework of the Global Campaign for Media Freedom, and under the overall umbrella of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity, this first Call for Partnerships will allocate a total USD $500,000 (five hundred thousand US dollars) to projects seeking to enhance journalists’ protection and their access to legal assistance, as well as supporting investigative journalism that contributes to tackling impunity. This amount will distributed in small grants of a minimum USD $15,000 (fifteen thousand US dollars) and a maximum USD $60,000 (sixty thousand US dollars) each.

The Global Media Defence Fund will consider applications from relevant not-for-profit entities, including –but not limited to– civil society organizations, media associations, human rights organizations, rule of law initiatives, journalists’ networks and academic institutions. In order to apply, interested stakeholders must submit the required forms and supporting documents to [email protected](link sends e-mail) no later than Sunday, 10 May 2020 at 23:59 (CET).

You will find the Call for Partnerships (in both English and French) and the necessary forms right here. Applicants are not required to register on the United Nations Global Marketplace website, nor to express interest via said website.
