Griffith University: Griffith Sport Logan Fun Run back on campus in 2021
After the onsite event was cancelled due to COVID-19 last year, the Griffith Sport Logan Fun Run 2021 was held under cool but sunny skies at Logan campus on the weekend.
Chris Beattie, Associate Director Campus Life Corporate Services said it was fantastic to have the event back at Logan, given the last-minute Melbourne lockdown before the race.

“There’s always that hesitation, in today’s world, where you’re never sure what’s around the corner,” he said.
“I know that our events team took a lot of those considerations into account in their planning.
“Last year, we actually managed to run the event virtually, where people registered and did the run offsite, but the great thing about the Griffith Sport Logan Fun Run is that it’s a lovely community event.

“That community element is such a strong component of the event and it’s such a beautiful campus and great way to bring community together.”
With 350 participants, numbers this year were down slightly but organisers are confident the event will continue to grow in popularity, as COVID fears lessen and the Logan community continues to expand.

“We expect the event to grow year on year and we didn’t quite hit the pre COVID number this year but given the uncertainty around people registering, and not knowing if events are really going to take place, I think having over 350 was a pretty good result,” Chris said.
The event raised more than $1500 for the AEIOU Foundation and provided valuable event management experience to 41 Griffith student volunteers.
“It’s actually nice to be out and at an event again, and our student volunteers showed great camaraderie in the way they all engaged and helped produce a fantastic event,” he said.
“This is a wonderful community event for the Logan area and I’d also like to thank our supporting Partners in Logan City Council and McDonalds – Marden, Beenleigh, Logan Central, Holmview and Eagleby, for their involvement.”
