GSITI offers e-Training for Pan-India Geo-Scientists
Hyderabad : GSITI, the training institute of GSI based in Hyderabad is offering e-Training for Geologists Pan India on NGCM (National Geo-Chemical Mapping) data processing and NGPM (National Geo-Physical Mapping) from 18th May 2020. The e-Training courses were formally inaugurated by Shri Ch. Venkateswara Rao, DDG and Head Mission-V, Shri Biswajit Gangopadhyay, DDG-RTDs and FTCs and Dr. Taraknath Pal, Director TC, at GSITI Hyderabad. Both the Trainings would continue till 30th May 2020. The Geoscientists of GSI, Central Departments, State DGMs and Other Institutes from all over India will be connected through this e-Training platform and will be trained by GSITI on different themes in the days to come. This marks the beginning of the e-Training programme to be undertaken by GSITI all the year round, of which there would be some e-Training that would be imparted globally as well.
GSI has initiated the ambitious programme of “National Geochemical Mapping (NGCM)” and “National Geophysical Mapping (NGPM)” since 2001 and 2002 respectively on Pan-India level. The prime objective of NGCM is to create a national geochemical baseline database of India using multi-elemental analysis and to create seamless geochemical maps of different elements for the entire country. The objective of NGPM is to prepare gravity and magnetic contour maps of the country for qualitative and quantitative interpretation to delineate the subsurface geological features. These mappings are being done in a very systematic manner on 1:50,000 scale and will immensely benefit the mineral industry, agricultural industry, environment, forestry and for betterment of society.
Geological Survey of India Training Institute (GSITI) is known mainly for imparting training through classroom, field training session and laboratory-based training for Geologists across the globe. It also has the BHUVISAMVAD initiative, an interactive training platform between the professional and the academia. With the change of time, since the inception of GSITI in 1976, the institute is gearing up for the first time to impart e-training on varied subjects specially in the post-COVID 19 scenario in addition to classroom lectures, laboratory and field trainings.
