Horticulture awareness camp cum Kissan Goshthi held at remote Panchayat Mathwar

 

JAMMU : The Department of Horticulture, district Jammu organized a one day awareness camp cum kissan goshthi at remote panchayat Mathwar.

District Development Council Chairman, Jammu Bharat Bhushan was the chief guest, while DDC member Joginder Singh presided over the program and Additional District Development Commissioner, Ramesh Chander was the guest of honour.

Addressing the large gathering of more than 200 farmers including women, Bharat Bhushan impressed upon the farmers to avail the benefits of different farmer friendly schemes and adopt drip irrigation system in their orchards with the assistance of the department for judicious use of water especially in kandi areas.

He appreciated the role of the department in creating awareness among the farming community about the various schemes of the department and particularly acknowledged the efforts of Chief Horticulture Jammu S. Sarbjeet Singh in serving the farming community with zeal and zest.

The DDC member Joginder Singh hailed the efforts of the department for organizing such camps in the remotest areas and advised to make it a regular feature.

The Chief Horticulture Jammu S. Sarbjeet Singh, while speaking on the occasion, briefed the farmers about the various centrally sponsored schemes of the department and urged them to come forward, associate with the horticulture department and avail the benefits on different components viz: Bore Well, water harvesting tanks, Drip irrigation, Custom Hiring Centres, vermicompost units, protected cultivation, tools & implements etc. for uplift of their socio- economic status.

Being a Kandi area, he asked the farmers to plant aleovera plants in their rainfed areas to utilize the land for gainful returns.

During the programme, Additional District Development Commissioner, Ramesh Chander advised the farmers to frequently interact with the field functionaries of the department regarding the new technologies and the problems being faced by them in the fields.

Later, fruit plants of different crops viz: citrus, Aonla , Mango & Harad were also distributed among the farmers who participated in the camp.

Among others, DLSMS(Pomo) Sandeep Gupta, Tehsildar Bhalwal Sh. Ashok Chakorborthy, BDO Mathwar, HDO Bhalwal Sh Sandeep Sharma, HDO Marh Sh. Sansar Chand besides Sarpanches & Panches were also present on the occasion.
