Horticulture Deptt hosts farmers’ awareness camp in Samba village
SAMBA: The Department of Horticulture, district Samba today organized a one day mega awareness camp here at remote Panchayat Taloor, block Sumb.
Director Horticulture Jammu, Ram Savak was the chief guest of the camp which was attended by around 200 farmers including women.
In his address, Ram Savak asked farmers to adopt the diversification of crops in their fields to earn whole year. He elaborated in detail about the incentives available under the various central and UT sponsored schemes of the department and urged them to come forward, associate with the horticulture department and avail the benefits of different components viz: Bore Well, Geo-tanks, Drip irrigation, Custom Hiring Centres, Plantation of Strawberry, etc. for upliftment of their socio- economic status.
Being a Kandi area, he asked the farmers to plant Aloevera plants in their rain fed areas to utilize the land and generate extra income. He also laid emphasis on planting High Density Plants and exotic fruit crops like Dragon Fruit in their fields to get more income.
He also inspected the fruit exhibits stalls and also handed over the keys of farm machinery viz: tractors, power tillers, brush Cutters etc to the beneficiaries. This will help the farmers to plough their land at low cost and get maximum output. Further, sanctions for purchase of tractor, power tiller etc. were also distributed to the farmers.
Sham Lal Abrol, Private Secretary to Principal Secretary Horticulture, J&K Govt, in his address impressed upon farmers to adopt horticulture and avail the maximum benefits of farmer friendly departmental schemes and uplift their economic status.
BDC Chairman Ramesh Singh, while speaking on the occasion, hailed the efforts of the department for organizing such a mega awareness camp in the remote area of the Samba district to educate the farmers about the departmental schemes and requested to organize such camps in the adjoining panchayats also.
Later, 400 fruit plants were also distributed among the farmers who participated in the camp.
Chief Horticulture Officer Samba, Ashwani Sharma, Sarpanch Baletar, Suraj Parkash verma, Nb.Sarpanch, Chuni Lal, PRI members, Horticulture Development Officers and officials of District Samba were also present on the occasion.
