IIM Ahmedabad to host Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India at the 1st edition of the IIMA Healthcare Summit
The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA), a premier global management institute, is all set to organize the inaugural edition of the IIMA Healthcare Summit, on 5th August 2023, at its campus. The theme for this year is ‘Catalyzing Innovation – Start-up Ecosystem and Policy Research’, in keeping with the Summit’s objective of fostering innovation and collaboration in the Indian healthcare sector.
Professor Bharat Bhasker, Director, IIMA will make the opening remarks and set the context for the Summit. The Chief Guest of the day, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Hon’ble Minister of Health, and Family Welfare and Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India, will give the keynote speech and Mr. Pankaj R Patel, Chairperson, IIMA Board of Governors, will deliver the inaugural address on the occasion. The valedictory address will be by Ms. S Aparna, Union Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India. Joining them will be Professor Tarun Jain, Chairperson, Centre for Management of Health Services (CMHS), IIMA; Professor Viswanath Pingali, Executive Member of CMHS and Associate Professor in Economics at IIMA, as well as several business leaders and IIMA alumni as speakers in the panel discussions scheduled later in the day.
The inaugural IIMA Healthcare Summit will comprise two panel discussions, a start – up competition and submission of research papers, bringing together industry leaders, academics, researchers, and government officials on a common platform.
Speaking about the significance of this Summit, Professor Bharat Bhasker, Director, IIMA, said, “The Indian healthcare sector is witnessing an unprecedented growth over the last few years. Technological advancements and innovations have further accelerated its growth making India one of the most sought- after healthcare services destinations across the world. To ensure that this growth is widespread and sustainable, it is important that we look at promoting innovation and encourage start-ups as well as review our policy making efforts, to nurture a robust eco-system that will ensure a well- balanced growth of the healthcare sector across the country, from metros to remote areas.”

The summit will feature two tracks, each focused on a crucial aspect of healthcare innovation. Track 1 on ‘Healthcare Start-up Ecosystem’, will be conducted by the Healthcare SIG, while Track 2 on ‘Policy Research’, will be conducted by CMHS. One of the highlights of the Summit will be the Healthcare Start-up Ecosystem track, which will comprise two panel discussions and a competition for healthcare start-ups. The competition will encompass three groups – established start-ups, early-stage start-ups, and concept-stage start-ups from students. The invited start-ups will be provided with a platform to showcase their innovative work, and awards will be presented to the top two start-ups in each category, recognizing their potential.
The IIMA Healthcare Summit is envisioned to be an annual event that garners recognition as a Must-Go-To event in India. The summit aims to receive support from healthcare associations, start-ups, and academic as well as research institutions, creating a conducive environment for collaboration and innovation in the healthcare sector. With a distinctive agenda, an excellent lineup of speakers, and participation from diverse audiences, the IIMA Healthcare Summit will work towards exchange of ideas, catalyze innovation, foster partnerships, and contribute to shaping the future of healthcare in India.
