IIM Bangalore’s 47th Foundation Day celebrations on October 28 go digital
Mumbai: The 47th Foundation Day of Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) will be celebrated on October 28 (Wednesday), 2020, with speeches, awards and more. For the first time ever, the event will be held on the virtual mode, due to the pandemic crisis.
Apart from addresses by Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, Chair, Board of Governors, IIMB and Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIMB, the event will include a virtual lecture on: ‘Reimagining the Indian Healthcare System’, at 05.00 pm. The Foundation Day lecture would be delivered by the Chief Guest Dr. Gagandeep Kang, FRS, Professor of Microbiology, Division of Gastrointestinal Sciences, Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore. The speech would be followed by a Q&A session.

Dr. Gagandeep Kang is the first woman from India to be elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. She is also the first Indian woman to be elected to Fellowship of the American Academy of Microbiology and is the only physician-scientist to receive the Infosys Award in Life Sciences.
Dr. Kang received her training in medicine and microbiology at the Christian Medical College, Vellore in southern India. She works on enteric infections in children, particularly on transmission and immune responses, in order to design effective interventions. Current studies include active hospital and community-based surveillance and clinical trials of new and existing vaccines, with use of molecular-based assays to study the diversity of pathogens and the immune response of children with viral and parasitic enteric infections.
The Foundation Day celebrations will also see Long Service Awards being presented to faculty. The 20 years’ Service Awards will be presented to faculty members Ishwar Murthy and Shubhabrata Das, both Professors in the Decision Sciences area. The 10 years’ Service Awards will be presented to faculty members Kanchan Mukherjee, Professor in Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management, Sreelata Jonnalagedda, Associate Professor of Marketing, Hema Swaminathan, Associate Professor in the Public Policy area, Chetan Subramanian, Professor of Economics & Social Sciences and Dean (Faculty), and Srinivasan Rangan, Associate Professor in the Finance & Accounting area. Thanksgiving to the faculty will be done by Professor Abhoy K Ojha, Dean, Programmes.
Long Service Awards will also be presented to non-teaching IIMB staff. The 10 years’ Service Award will be given to 12 permanent and seven contract employees, while two employees each will receive the 30 years’ Service Award and 40 years’ Service Award. Thanksgiving to staff will be done by Professor Rajendra K Bandi, Dean, Administration.
The IIMB community of faculty, former faculty, students, staff and alumni will be part of the virtual event.
