IIM Shillong Concludes Its IX Convocation
Shillong: IX Annual Convocation of IIM Shillong successfully concluded on 16th April 2018 and conferred Diplomas to 172 Postgraduate students and 30 Post Graduate Executive Students. For the first time IIM Shillong conferred its Fellow of IIM Shillong to 1 participant. Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu graced the event as the Chief Guest and delivered his Convocation address. Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Ganga Prasad and James P K Sangma Hon’ble Cabinet Minister of Meghalaya graced the convocation ceremony as the Guests of Honour.
Hon’ble Chief Guest Shri M Venkaiah Naidu, while delivering the Convocation Address, highlighted the importance of strong value, ethical character and integrity in the future role of the students as leaders for brand India. “As you interact with the world, show your leadership that represents modern India. You need to take on the challenges and shoulder responsibilities to transform India into a global economic power. Please keep in mind that the quality of product, efficient service and ethical business practices are the hallmark of a positive global brand. Every decision taken by you as a thought leader should bear testimony to these qualities.” He stressed upon the role students can play in converting the rich human capital of India into a demographic dividend and making India the knowledge and economic hub of the world. “Finally remember that education is not only for employment, but also for enlightenment and empowerment,” he remarked.
Chairman of the Board of Governors, Shri Shishir Kumar Bajoria, while congratulating the students and the faculty members said, “Old order changeth, yielding place to new, this is the law of nature. As I stand with you today, the change in New India is far more pronounced and deeper than ever before. All of you have been very fortunate not only to have graduated from a World renowned Institute, the IIM, but also under care and supervision of members of IIMS family.” “Today the standard method of judging the success of an Institute is the success in ‘On Campus’ recruitments and the average package. This is already changing and in the near future may change completely. More and more stress will be on entrepreneurs, those who start something new, those who create. Not simply be job seekers but job providers.” The Chairman also announced that IIM Shillong will be shifting to its new permanent campus very soon.
On behalf of IIM Shillong, Director of the Institute, Dr. Amitabha De extended a warm welcome to members of the Board of Governors of IIM, Shillong, dignitaries, parents of the students, members of press and media, faculty members, officers, staff and graduating students. Dr. De congratulated the IIM Shillong fraternity for being awarded the DNA Innovative Education Leadership Award and CSR Top Institute of India Award and for the contribution made by the Institute in the field of management by publication of thirty three papers in journals, two books and two Ivy League cases.
Parth Dadhania was awarded Chairman’s Gold Medal for securing highest CGPA and Deepam Sahu was awarded the Institute Silver medal for the second highest CGPA. Girriraj Goyal won the MathFinance AG Gold Medal for securing the highest marks in quantitative finance courses and Vivek Singh won the Director’s Gold Medal for Best All-Rounder and Institute’s medal for positive contribution to campus life.
Dr. Amitabha De announced that Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Government of India along with the North Eastern Council (NEC), Government of India has set up a Centre for Policy Research and Analysis in the name of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, at IIM, Shillong.

IIM Shillong has fortified its position as a premier B-School with the successful completion of the placement season for the batch of 2016-18 earlier during the year. Its flagship Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) witnessed the completion of final placement for its largest batch size till date.
With its consistent performance this season, the Institute recorded a median CTC of 16 LPA witnessing a significant increase of 14% over the last year. The highest domestic CTC stood at 26 LPA. The recruitment drive saw participations from 41 recruiters and 169 participants while two participants would be pursuing independent entrepreneurial ventures. The mean CTC for the batch was 15.51 LPA. Noticeably, the mean for the top 20% of the batch stood at 21 LPA and that for the top half increased to 18.5 LPA.
The season saw a record number of increase in the number of pre-placement offers with one third of the batch receiving PPO/PPIs.
