IIM Tiruchirappalli celebrates International Women’s Day

Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli celebrated Women’s Day on March 08, 2023. The event symbolised the celebration of the achievements made by women in various avenues and served to raise an opportunity to end gender bias in society.

The event was graced by Chief Guest Ms. Ramya Devi, District Revenue Officer, Pudukkottai, Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh, Director, IIM Tiruchirappalli, and Prof. Pravin Tambe, Chairperson, Student Affairs. The event was based on the theme of – Embrace Equity. The event began with the display of a short video featuring the women of the institute, where they shared their inspirational journeys and encouraged society to step up for women’s empowerment.

Ms. Ramya Devi, District Revenue Officer, addressed the gathering and expressed her pleasure in the advancement of women’s status in the past decade. The chief guest called women ‘the architects of the society’ and said that one should honour the sacrifices and achievements made by women every day. She reminisced about her journey and the struggles, and evoked courage in the young women to stand up for themselves and make their voices heard. She applauded the role of the government in uplifting society and creating awareness about women’s rights. She urged the women to be bold, courageous, and brave.

In his welcome address, Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh, Director, IIM Tiruchirappalli, applauded the women present for their accomplishments. He called women as God’s most precious and beautiful creation on Earth. Director urged the audience to work towards the creation of a non-discriminating society. He recalled the virtues of the historical women and urged everyone to strive to be as intellectual as Gargi, as knowledgeable as Maitreyi, and as spiritual as Madalasa. He advocated equal opportunities and better accessibility for women.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Suvarshitha Dharoor, Women Secretary, IIM Tiruchirappalli, followed by the national anthem.
