IIT-IIM alumni run Footprints Childcare announces Rs.5 crore funding for Teacher Training and Development
New Delhi: Celebrating the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Footprints Childcare, an IIT-IIM alumni run national chain of progressive play schools and daycares, today announced to dedicate a fund of Rs.5 crores towards training and development of its teachers. In the next three years, Footprints aims to use this fund to enable teachers and equip them with all the required skills. Teacher learning and development has always been a priority area for Footprints and is an integral part of the company’s vision.
Underscoring the importance of teacher training and development, Raj Singhal, CEO & Co-founder, Footprints Childcare said, “We believe that education, specifically high-quality early childhood education, has the power to change the world, and teachers are most definitely a vital part of a child’s education. While we ensure to recruit the most capable candidates through a rigorous recruitment process, we also invest thoroughly in training and development programs for our teachers, through HighScope, to ensure their professional and personal growth receives constant attention.”
Commenting on the status of the national early education programs, Purvesh Sharma, COO & Co-Founder, Footprints Childcare says, “Currently, there is a lot of attention directed at expanding access to preschool in India, but there is inadequate attention towards the quality of the programs – at both the curriculum and teacher development level. The training provided to aspiring preschool teachers is extremely uneven, which means that no matter how much we invest in schools, we will get mixed, often disappointing outcomes for our children. It is imperative we invest in our teachers and empower them with the skills specific to early childhood teaching, including how to build children’s communication skills, language abilities, cognitive and social skills. The benefit to the public by investing in teacher training is much greater than every penny spent.”
As a part of this program, all teachers who have joined the Footprints family will be delivered an intensive and comprehensive HighScope training, in order to effectively implement the HighScope approach to the early years education of children. Research shows that this approach helps to improve children’s thinking skills as they start school and these skills last into adulthood. It’s a way of working with young children devised from a theory of child development. HighScope gives a framework, a routine that allows teachers to work with children whilst letting the children do the discovering. This training program would help Footprints Childcare realize its vision to create critical mass of teachers, with a shared outlook and who would support each other in enhancing the quality of early education in India.
