JODHPURIndian Institute of Technology Jodhpur hosted the inaugural event of the National Conference on Energy Materials and Devices (E-MAD 2022) on 16th December 2022. This is a 3-day long conference that will provide an outstanding platform to the national and local experts from academia and industry. The conference will also provide solutions to some of the existing challenges in designing novel materials for renewable energy generation/storage. To meet these challenges and fulfil the needs, IIT Jodhpur is organizing the national conference on “Energy Materials and Devices” during December 16 – 18, 2022. More than 100 participants across academic institutes, research laboratories, and industries are expected to attend this conference.

Some of the real applications in renewable energy generation, storage, and their integration for real applications include high energy density batteries, and green hydrogen for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and hydrogen fuel cells for distributed energy needs. The aim and outcomes of the National Conference on Energy Materials and Devices 2022 include:

  • Raising awareness among scholars and researchers for the need for renewable energy sources.
  • Exchanging knowledge to achieve more efficient energy materials and energy-efficient devices.
  • Building a coalition in support of national interest in exploring various energy materials and energy-efficient devices.

The chief guest of the conference will be Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director General, CSIR & Secretary, DSIR and Prof. R. R. Sonde, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Delhi will be the guest of honor. Other eminent speakers from various IITs and other scientific organizations will grace the event with their talks.

Talking about the impact of research and significance of the EMAD 2022 conference, DG-CSIR Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, said“Technologies today are short lived but lithium is here to stay. We all should emphasise on the impact of our research on rural, urban and national development.”

Highlighting the adverse environmental situation of increased carbon footprint, Prof. R R Sonde, IIT Delhi, said, “We should emphasize on providing solutions to our problems without generating new ones. We should find methods of sustainable energy generation and storage.”

During the inaugural event, highlighting the initiatives taken by IIT Jodhpur in the field of renewable energy, Prof. Santanu Chaudhury, Director, IIT Jodhpur, said“The institute is keenly interested in sustainable development along with meeting the present-day energy demands. We are planning on creating a centre for energy to tackle energy related challenges.”

The conference on Energy Materials and Devices will encompass the following key areas, but not limited to Lithium (Li) and Sodium (Na) ion batteries, electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles (EVs &HEVs), green hydrogen generation including solar assisted generation, hydrogen storage materials and devices, water splitting materials and technologies for scaled hydrogen production, hydrogen vehicles (HVS), computational design of electrode materials for batteries and hydrogen generation/storage, machine learning/artificial intelligence for design and development of energy materials and fuel cell technologies.

The invited talks and accepted papers (both oral and poster) during the National Conference on Energy Materials and Devices (E-MAD 2022) are planned to be published in the form of conference proceedings with Springer.
