IIT Roorkee Leading the First edition of the Largest Uttarakhand Udyog Mahotsav

Roorkee : Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) came forward to lead the first edition of the Largest Uttarakhand Udyog Mahotsav (UKUM), in collaboration with the Bhagwanpur Industries Association (BIA) and the Roorkee Small Scale Industrial Association (RSSIA), Roorkee. It is one of the largest industrial exhibitions in Uttarakhand, serving as a golden opportunity and a platform to build and add new business tie-ups for industry and start-ups.

At the prelaunch event of UKUM held in IIT Roorkee, an MoU was signed in the presence of Prof K K Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, Mr. Raajjhesh Rawatt, Chairman, Bhagwanpur Industries Association; and Mr. B.B. Gupta, President, Roorkee Small Scale Industries Association to foster industry-academia collaboration for translational research activities and socioeconomic growth of Uttarakhand. Under this MoU, IIT Roorkee, as the thought and technical leader, is uniquely positioned to provide technical solutions to industries in order to boost technology-based entrepreneurship through its academic, research and innovation ecosystem. BIA and RSSIA represent more than 700 MSMEs from Roorkee & Bhagwanpur region and play a critical role in establishing a bridge between the industry and the government, besides facilitating the industry in various ways by creating platforms for its growth and development of effective and efficient policy, regulation, and industry standards.

UKUM is planned with an aim to bring together start-ups, MSMEs and organisations from various industry associations around the Roorkee region for a 3-day exhibition starting from 18th to 20th March 2023 at Bhagwanpur, Roorkee, where 200+ industries will be showcasing the industrial caliber of Uttarakhand towards “Atmanirbhar Bharat”. The pragmatic industrial policy of Uttarakhand has ensured a large amount of investment coming into the state and motivated the organisation of this kind of event. This UKUM initiative is adding value to states’ policies by taking on the responsibility to facilitate sustainable industrial growth and provide opportunities for various stakeholders to interact, thereby promoting substantial networking opportunities and ease of doing business among industries.
TIDES, TIH, and the TechSarthi team of IIT Roorkee are all set to actively contribute to the mega success of this event. Being the oldest technical institution in Asia, IIT Roorkee believes in assisting local industries by leveraging its technical expertise to promote the theme of ‘Local to Global’ and to assist industries in their growth, resulting in the socioeconomic development of society. IIT Roorkee also bagged the Industrial innovation award for the third year in a row for its outstanding performance by CII. Moreover, to strengthen the nation’s startup ecosystem while focusing on taking Indian technologies to the global level to meet its commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat, IIT Roorkee has its key startups aimed at providing advanced technologies to people. The institute secured the Best Startup award last year for its 4 startups from various domains, viz., RavenEye Geospatial Tech Limited, DTown Robotics Private Ltd, Indi Energy and Perovskite Innovations Pvt. Ltd. The goal was to reduce the dominance of foreign companies in India’s geospatial market, making India self-sufficient in this field and today IIT Roorkee continues to strive in the direction using UKUM as a platform.

At the Pre-Launch event Director IIT Roorkee -Prof. K.K Pant said, “We have entered an era where state, industry, and academia are all working towards the betterment of society and contributing to the nation’s development. We believe that it is of cardinal importance to forging strong collaborations with industry partners, start-ups and MSMEs to train our students in line with the skill set requirement of industry and to carry out translational research in cutting-edge technology domains to realize the Make in India objectives of our Country”
