Inter-NIT Women’s Cricket Tournament started at NIT Rourkela

Games & Sports Society Club under Student Activity Centre (SAC), NIT Rourkela has organised Inter-NIT Women’s Cricket Tournament from 28th Jan – 30th Jan 2023. Three teams, NIT Rourkela, NIT Delhi and NIT Jalandhar are participating in this 3-day tournament to be played at Sachin Tendulkar Stadium, NIT Rourkela.

 

Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao (Director, NIT Rourkela) today inaugurated the tournament. Prof. Rohan Dhiman (Registrar), Prof. Sidhartha S. Jena (Dean, Student Welfare) and Prof. Poonam Singh (SAC, President) also joined the event to encourage the players. Wishing the players for their best performance, Prof. Rao said, “Give your full efforts irrespective of for whom the audience is cheering. Shape your sportsmanship by learning from mistakes and do work in a team as we achieve more for the team by being in the group. Confidence is the key so believe in yourself. I welcome the teams of NIT Delhi and NIT Jalandhar to this lush green campus and extend my best wishes to all for the match. Hope you all put up a great performance on this ground.”

 

The first day had three matches scheduled to be played in the morning, noon and evening. NIT Rourkela won by 17 runs against NIT Delhi on the first match of the tournament. Sagarika Sindhur (NIT Rourkela), Vadudha Vaid (NIT Jalandhar) and Anavi Somani (NIT Delhi) are the captains of the teams participating in this tournament. Vice presidents of the Games & Sports Society, Prof. Ramesh Kumar Mohapatra and Dr Mayank Yadav are the event organisers. Dr Yadav is also the commentator for the tournament. Mr. Prabhat Sukhla, Mr. Niranjan Mallick, Mr. Pranav Nanda, Mr. Ajay Rout are the umpire of the matches. A total of 6 matches will be played to make it to the tournament finals. The tournament will conclude on January 30.
