Interdisciplinary Lecture Series
Aligarh : Faculty members of the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) spoke on myriad concepts and topics ranging from ‘Normal and Abnormal Electrocardiography’ to ‘Management of Pneumothorax’ and ‘Radiological Findings’ among others in the interdisciplinary lecture series of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care.
Prof M U Rabbani (Chairman, Department of Cardiology) explained how sometimes an Electrocardiogram (ECG) abnormality is a normal variation of a heart’s rhythm—which does not affect health, but at times, an abnormal ECG can signal a medical emergency, such as a myocardial infarction, heart attack or a dangerous arrhythmia.
In a lecture stretched over two days, he discussed the Basic and Complex ECG findings and their relevant interpretations.
After his lecture, Prof Rabbani also offered free copies of his book on normal and abnormal ECG to the postgraduate students appearing for exams.
Prof Azam Haseen (Chairman, Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery) delivered a talk on ‘Identification and Management of Pneumothorax, Pyothorax and Deep Vein Thrombosis’.
He deliberated the options of observation, needle aspiration, chest tube insertion, nonsurgical repair and surgery for the management of pneumothorax and use of drugs to prevent clots from getting bigger and reducing the risk of developing more clots for patients suffering with Deep Vein Thrombosis.
Dr Mehtab Ahmad (Associate Professor, Department of Radiodiagnosis) spoke on ‘Radiological Findings on X-ray, Ultrasound, CT’ and ‘MRI of the Relevant Common and Uncommon Diseases in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Practices’.
Prof Qazi Ehsan Ali (Chairman, Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care) said that the interdisciplinary lectures have been highly beneficial to the faculty members and students.
He extended gratitude to the speakers for sharing their expertise.
