‘International Epilepsy Day’ observed in AMU

Aligarh: Various causes related to epilepsy and diagnosis, timely prevention and problems faced by children with epilepsy, their families and carers were highlighted in ‘A Parents Support Group Meeting of Children with Epilepsy’ to observe the ‘International Epilepsy Day’ organised by the District Early Intervention Center (DEIC) and Center of Excellence (CoE) Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) .

“The aim of the meeting was to create awareness among parents of children suffering with epilepsy,” said Prof Tabassum Shahab, Convener, DEIC-COE.

He added that signs and symptoms of epilepsy in childhood, different types of seizures and syndromes and treatment options were discussed.

Dr Uzma Firdaus, Nodal Officer, DEIC-COE pointed out that a number of children with epilepsy outgrow seizures by the time they reach their teens and side effects can be prevented with an organized system of care.

Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui (Principal, JNMC), Prof Haris M Khan (Medical Superintendent), Prof Syed Manazir Ali, Prof Farzana K Beig, Prof Kamran Afzal and Dr Shaad Abqari interacted with parents of children with epilepsy in a special session.

Clinical psychologist, Dr Firdaus Jahan conducted a drawing competition for children with epilepsy.

MBBS students with Dr M Navedur Rahman, Dental Surgeon, DEIC-COE presented a skit for epilepsy awareness and information booklet prepared by Dr Gulnaz Nadri, Paediatrician, DEIC-COE was distributed to families with epileptic children.
