However, there will be no return to online teaching, emphasizes the President of KIT, Professor Holger Hanselka: “Since the beginning of the Russian President’s war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022, energy prices have literally exploded. That is why we are currently examining intensively where and how we can save energy.” However, this will not affect teaching: “After two years of restrictions due to the pandemic, we share the view of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science that the energy savings will affect on-site operation as little as possible be allowed to have an effect,” said President Hanselka.

Studying in attendance despite the energy crisis

Around 21,500 students at KIT – two new courses

The number of first semester students at KIT in the winter semester 2022/23, including beginners in the master’s degree programs, will be 4,531, the total number of students 21,433. However, enrollment and progression procedures are still ongoing, the cut-off date for student statistics is November 30 . Students can choose between 44 bachelor’s and 59 master’s courses. As of this winter semester, the bachelor’s degree in medical technology and the master’s degree in technology and management in construction have been added.

Student involvement at KIT

The start at KIT is made easier for first-year students, among other things, by the orientation phases organized by the student councils, or O phases for short, before the start of the semester. The more than 90 university groups of the KIT contribute to the varied campus life – from culture to sports to politics and much more. For their special commitment in these and the student councils, the KIT honors 49 students at the first semester welcome.

In a video series, KIT students answer questions about starting their studies – for example what the student ID can be used for or what can be found in the student portal. They also give tips on learning, leisure activities at KIT, life in Karlsruhe, or working while studying. The first part of the series is online, more videos will follow in the next few days.

Information stands in the foyer of the Audimax

Various KIT institutions, university groups, and partners will provide information about their offerings after the event at stands in the foyer of the Audimax or digitally from the day of the event at https://www.aserv.kit.edu/erstsemesterbegruessung22.php and will be available to answer questions. A selection from the KIT campus collection will be sold, including T-shirts made from recycled materials, hoodies, and sustainable and practical study aids.
