MAB China establishes 42-member Advisory Council
To further promote Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme in China, the Chinese National Committee for UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB China) established an Advisory Council on 15 April 2021, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of MAB
The Advisory Council consists of 42 leading experts in the fields of nature conservation and sustainable development, especially biosphere reserves in China. It is headed by Prof. Zhihong Xu, former President of MAB China (1993-2021). In his address to all the members of the council, Prof. Xu stresses the significance of the council and calls for a more active role of experts from different fields of research and continuous efforts in the implementation of MAB Strategy and global action plan, and in building a shared future for all life on earth.
China has currently 34 biosphere reserves.
