Madhya Pradesh Govt will give Financial assistance to needy advocates

Bhopal : Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that many of our lawyers are facing financial problems due to closure of courts following Corona crisis. Madhya Pradesh Advocate Assistance Scheme has been launched to provide them with assistance. Along with this, it has also been decided to increase the limit of funds set up for this scheme from Rs. 1 crore to Rs. 2 crore, so that maximum needy advocates can avail its benefits. Shri Chouhan was presiding over the meeting of the Trustee Committee constituted in connection with the Madhya Pradesh Advocates Assistance Scheme.

Number of eligible advocates to be doubled

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that we will make efforts to ensure that more and more needy advocates can avail benefits of the scheme. For this, he directed to double the number of eligible advocates in the proposed scheme. Under the scheme, if the number of advocates in any Bar Association was more than 25 but up to a maximum of 100, the number of eligible advocates in the scheme was kept at 5, which the Chief Minister directed to hike to 10.

Form and purpose of the scheme

Advocates are facing serious challenges due to the spread of Corona virus. Hence “MPLawyersAssistance (Natural Calamities and UnexpectedSituations) Scheme 2020” has been formulated with the objective of providing financial assistance for livelihood of advocates of weak economic condition. This scheme will be applicable to the advocates nominated by the Madhya Pradesh State Advocates Council. This scheme will be applicable to the advocates nominated by the Madhya Pradesh State Advocates Council. This amount will be payable to the eligible advocate under special circumstances, which the committee will determine from time to time only on the advice of the Advocate Council. Under certain circumstances this amount will not exceed Rs 5000.

Application Process

Advocate members in the scheme will submit their applications to the District / Tehsil Advocates Association addressing Madhya Pradesh State Advocates Council. After the application is examined by the concerned District / Tehsil Advocates Association, the application along with the recommendation will be sent to the State Advocates Council for approval.

Additional Chief Secretary Finance Shri Anurag Jain, Principal Secretary Law Shri Satyendra Singh, Secretary Shri Gopal Shrivsatava were present in the meeting. Advocate General Shri Purushendra Kaurav participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
