Gurugram-based Masters’ Union, the new-age business school, has announced its students from the PGP Class of 2024, secured second Place in the 9th edition of the Global Case Competition at Harvard Business School. Competing against top universities worldwide, such as MIT Sloan, Stanford, Columbia Business School, HEC Paris, and UC Berkeley, the students demonstrated outstanding problem-solving abilities and creativity, earning them a well-deserved spot among the finalists.
The Global Case Competition at Harvard Business School stands as the pinnacle of student-organised case competitions worldwide. The Global Case Competition at Harvard 2024, jointly organised by the International Finance Student Association (IFSA) Network and the Harvard GSAS Business Club, aims to build and nourish a vibrant and connected community of graduate students interested in exploring career opportunities in the business world. Since its inception in 2016, the competition has served as a platform to unite the brightest minds in economics and finance from across the globe, offering unparalleled opportunities for collaboration and intellectual growth.
Pratham Mittal, Founder, Masters’ Union, said, “We are incredibly proud of our students’ accomplishments at the Harvard Business School Global Case Competition. At Masters’ Union, we provide a truly global education experience, essential for success in today’s interconnected world. This prestigious competition challenged our students to think critically, solve complex business problems, and network with talented peers worldwide. Competing against top business schools, our students demonstrated their ability to analyse problems, develop innovative solutions, and communicate effectively on a global stage. Their success in this competition is a testament to our learning business by doing business pedagogy.“
This year’s competition challenged participants with a complex three-week mergers and acquisitions case study on the potential acquisition of Equinix by IBM. Contestants had to conduct an in-depth analysis of the financial and non-financial synergies between the two companies, requiring a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies involved. After meticulous research and strategic analysis, our students identified a misalignment in the proposed synergies. They presented an alternative proposition to enhance IBM’s global footprint in digital infrastructure and cloud services. This insightful solution showcased the students’ exceptional analytical abilities and innovative thinking, setting them apart from the competition.
The competition unfolded across three arduous rounds. In the initial round, teams submitted a comprehensive 75-page presentation, followed by a 10-minute video presentation in the subsequent week. The final round culminated in a rigorous 20-minute question-and-answer session with a distinguished jury comprising globally renowned experts – Dr. Amir Rezvani (Director of Finance & Investment at Harvard Business School), Asya Potemkina (Director and Investment Counselor at HSBC Private Bank), Danijel Lipovac (Head of Mergers and Acquisitions at REWE Group). This esteemed panel scrutinised the participants’ fundamental understanding of finance and validated the proposed solutions, ensuring a challenging and rewarding experience for all involved.
Mahak Garg, Director, PGP TBM Program, Masters’ Union, said, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our students for their outstanding performance, as well as to the alumni, faculty, and staff who played a pivotal role in nurturing our student skills and talents. This victory further solidifies Masters Union’s position as a leading business school on the global stage, and we remain committed to providing our students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to excel in the dynamic and competitive world of business.“
