MC Anantnag penalizes private clinical laboratory for unscientific disposal of medical waste

ANANTNAG : A laboratory operating from the premises of a private health facility was penalized in contravention of Solid Waste Management rules, Anantnag Municipal Solid Waste Management By-laws 2019 and Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules 2016.

It was given out that during routine supervision of sanitation work, medical waste was found scattered in a public lane at Nazuk Mohalla and upon its verification it came to fore that the said medical waste was thrown by a private laboratory operating in the area.

The laboratory has been penalized with a fine of Rs. 10,000 for violation of rules and warned to desist from similar offences in future otherwise stern action shall be initiated.

CEO MC Anantnag said that sensitization regarding adherence to Solid Waste Management Rules has been carried out widely.

He said that regular inspections to ensure adherence by commercial establishments as well as private individuals are being held. He also said that awareness activities have been intensified as part of the ongoing Indian Swachta League to ensure that there is tangible transformation on the ground.
