MC Udhampur makes Roof top rain water harvesting mandatory for issuing building permits

Udhampur: Municipal Council Udhampur has made Roof top rain water harvesting mandatory for issuing building permits in consonance with the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Water day.’

The initiative has been taken by the MC to promote the “Catch the Rain” campaign after the District Development Commissioner held a meeting to work out the modalities and programmes for proper awareness regarding saving every drop of water and utilization the rain water for domestic purpose and recharging of the ground water which is very low in the district.

In this regard a meeting was today convened in the Municipal office attended by all the elected representatives of wards and a unanimous decision was taken regarding inclusion of guidelines that every commercial and residential building plan (Above 100Sqm) in next financial year shall be regularized subject to the condition that the applicant shall propose a proper plan in their premises for the rain water harvesting system. The meeting also decided to prepare a plan along with the association of all ward councilors for conducting awareness programme for motivating the general masses of Udhampur town for the Conservation of Rain Water so that the same can be used for the domestic purpose during scarcity of water.

It was also decided in the meeting that all the Government Offices/ School / Colleges shall make rain water harvesting project operational in their premises to create a positive motivation for general public.

The meeting was attended by Surinder Singh (Vice-President MC Udhampur) and Councilors.
