Monash has risen five places in the prestigious ShanghaiRanking Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2022 to rank 75th in the world.

The University’s score has improved across three indicators in the 2022 rankings, and remained in the top 100 of the 1800+ universities considered by ARWU since 2016.

ARWU adopts six objective indicators to rank world universities. These include the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, the number of Highly Cited Researchers and articles indexed in Science Citation Index – Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index based on data in the Web of Science, and per capita performance.

Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC said the 2022 results highlighted the University’s enduring dedication of staff and their world-class research.

“Maintaining our strong performance during challenging years is a testament to the University’s high quality research, realised through the talent and dedication of our staff, and collaboration with our global network of research partners.”

Monash featured prominently among the world’s most elite institutions in prestigious rankings released earlier this year. The University ranked 57th globally in the 2023 QS World University Rankings, following the University’s number one ranking for Pharmacy and Pharmacology in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

Monash also achieved its best-ever result in the 2022 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Rankings of Academic Subjects, with two subjects ranking in the top five, 15 in the top 50, and 36 in the top 100.
