Namibia Expresses Interest in Close Collaboration with UrFU
Namibia is interested in the closest possible cooperation with the Ural Federal University to train qualified personnel for its enterprises. This was announced by Kashuupulwa Clemens Handuukeme, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Namibia to the Russian Federation, during his visit to UrFU. The prospects of educational and scientific cooperation development were discussed during the meeting with the university management headed by Rector Victor Koksharov.
“Many students from African countries study at UrFU, but there are no students at all from Namibia. And this situation certainly needs to be improved. There are agreements and memoranda of understanding between Russia and Namibia, including the field of education. The goal is to increase the number of students who come to Russia and expand the student exchange program. We need specialists in the mining industry, Namibia has a lot of minerals (copper, diamonds), and gas and oil deposits have been recently discovered. But the task is not only to extract the raw materials but also to train Namibians to work at local enterprises to process the raw materials and dispense the finished product,” said the Ambassador.
The Ambassador noted that UrFU is an attractive university for Namibian students to study there. According to him, it is very important to use the unique opportunities that are provided by one of Russia’s leading universities.
“The Ural Federal University has more than a hundred years of history, a great experience in training personnel, and we want to use all these opportunities. It is very important for us that students apply their knowledge and skills in Namibia. First of all, we are interested in educational programs connected to mining, processing, engineering, communications, and technology. And, of course, we would like to use the experience if UrFU in the field of implementing the advanced developments of scientists in real production. This would contribute to the economic transformation of the country and increase its competitiveness,” emphasized the Ambassador.
