National Eye Donation Fortnight at JNMC
Aligarh : Paramedical students and staff of the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and the university’s Paramedical College were provided with the necessary information on eye donation and apprised about the steps to bridge the gap between the demand and supply of cornea in an awareness program of the Institute of Ophthalmology, JNMC held to observe the 37th National Eye Donation Fortnight.
“Eye donation is a noble cause and people should not lose out on the opportunity to help those who need it the most”, remarked Prof Abadan Khan Amitava.
Speaking on the necessity for observing National Eye Donation Fortnight, he added: “The objective is to create awareness about the importance of eye donation and to motivate people to pledge their eyes for donation after death. Let us not forget that blindness is one of the major public health issues across the world”.
Prof Adeeb A Khan discussed ‘Hospital Cornea Retrieval Program’ and its possible implementation at JNMC.
Dr Ziya Siddiqui answered queries of the participants and Dr M Saquib extended the vote of thanks.
Dr Pragya conducted the program.
Meanwhile, students of the Nursing College, Paramedical College and the Department of Fine Arts created public awareness posters in a contest held today to mark the occasion.
The winners of the competition will be announced and felicitated on September 8.
