National Level Quiz Competition on “Organic and Inorganic Chemistry” organized by GDC Kathua

 

KATHUA : A National Level Online Quiz Competition was organized by the Department of Chemistry, Government Degree College Kathua on the topic “Organic and Inorganic Chemistry” based on the syllabus of Semester 6th of University of Jammu.

A total of 281 participants from different Colleges and Universities from all over India participated and enriched their experience in Multiple Choice Questions on the topics UV, IR and 1H-N Spectroscopy, Active Methylene Compounds, Catalysis, Chemical Explosives, Batteries, Fertilizers, s and p Block. A total of 85 MCQ’s were asked in the Quiz covering all these topics.

The National Online Quiz Competition was organized under overall supervision and Guidance of Prof. Asha Ram Sharma, Principal of the College, by the Organizing committee comprising Prof. Rakesh Singh (Convener), Dr. Anupma Arora (Co- Convener), Dr. Pankaj Gupta (Organising Secretary), Dr. Ambica, Dr. Upasna Andotra and Dr. Roshan Pakhroo.

Prof. Rakesh Singh, Convenor of the National Level Online Quiz competition, while giving details of Quiz told that that students from different colleges of Jammu & Kashmir and other states and Union territories like Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Chandigarh, Maharashtra, MP, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, took part in the Online Quiz Competition.

He said that UG , PG Students and Research scholars of reputed Colleges and Universities and Institutions of India like University of Mumbai, AMU Lucknow ,Chandigarh University, University of Jammu, University of Kashmir, Cluster University Jammu, Pune University, Delhi University, , Kerala University, Anna University, Annamalai University, Bangalore North University, Bharathiar University, Bhopal University, Calicut University, Gujarat Technical University, Kerala University, Osmania University, Savitribai Phule University, Pune University, Shri Padmavathi Mahila University etc. participated in the Online Quiz Competition. Participants securing 80 percent and above were awarded e-Certificates.

He said that it was golden opportunity for the Students of GDC, Kathua to compete with world class Institutions of India and the topic of the Online Quiz “Organic and Inorganic Chemistry ” was chosen taking into consideration the syllabus of Chemistry of Semester 6thof University of Jammu. He further said that the national quiz shall be quite useful to the students for getting acquainted with the new pattern of examination as students have to go for new pattern of examination that is MCQ as per the directions of Jammu University and UGC recommendations in view of Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Organizing Secretary of the Online quiz competition while giving details told that both Mehak Verma, and Manish Kumar of Govt. Degree College, Kathua (J&K UT) secured 98 % and topped the competition. Upasna Devi of GDC, Kathua (J&K UT) secured 97 % marks and stood 2nd . Suhani of Govt Degree College Kathua secured96 percent and stood 3rd. Mayoor Khan of Govt Degree College Mendharand Hardev Singh of Govt Degree College Kathua secured 92 % and stood 4th.

Principal of the College, Prof. Asha Ram Sharma appreciated the contribution of the Department of Chemistry for preparing the students as per latest pattern of MCQ examination during this tough time of Covid-19 pandemic, when regular class work was not possible. He appreciated the efforts of Prof. Rakesh Singh, HOD Chemistry and other faculty of Department for organizing a Quiz Competition in Chemistry, for the overall welfare of students of not only GDC, Kathua but also for students of other colleges of state and the whole of India. He further said that the overwhelming response of the students showed that they were keen to prepare themselves for the forthcoming MCQ pattern of examination.
