New York University: NYU Dentistry Receives Gift from BioHorizons to Expand Access, Education for Implant Dentistry
NYU College of Dentistry (NYU Dentistry) has received major funding and in-kind support from BioHorizons Implant Systems, Inc. to make dental implants more accessible for patients in need and enhance the College’s continuing education programs. BioHorizons, part of Henry Schein, Inc., is a leading global provider of dental implant and tissue regeneration products.
The gift includes dental implant products developed and manufactured by BioHorizons, which will lower the cost of implant treatment for patients, including those treated at the NYU Dentistry Oral Health Center for People with Disabilities and NYU Dentistry Brooklyn Patient Care. The gift will also support the College’s newly launched Patient Care Access Fund, created to reduce financial barriers for those who would otherwise not be able to afford dental implants as part of their treatment plans.
“Dental implants can have a direct and tangible impact on patients, their quality of life, and their overall health,” said Robert Glickman, associate dean for clinical affairs and hospital relations, and chair and professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery at NYU Dentistry. “This generous gift from BioHorizons will subsidize the cost of dental implant treatment for many patients and put this restorative option within reach.”
“BioHorizons is honored to support the faculty and be part of the education and training for NYU residents, students, and comprehensive dental provider network,” said Steve Boggan, president and CEO of BioHorizons. “We hope that this donation will provide the NYU dental community with the tools needed to enhance smiles and overall health for those who need it most during this time.”
The funding from BioHorizons will also support NYU Dentistry’s continuing education programs for oral health professionals, enabling the College to develop new offerings related to prosthodontics and implant dentistry.
“NYU is a leader not only in implant dentistry, but in the hands-on training of new dentists and seasoned professionals to provide cutting-edge, evidence-based care that restores healthy smiles. We are grateful for BioHorizons’ investment in the ongoing learning of dentists,” said Charles N. Bertolami, the Herman Robert Fox Dean of NYU Dentistry.
Dental implants provide secure, long-term solutions for replacing missing or damaged teeth. The implants are surgically guided into the jawbone and substitute for the roots of missing teeth, thereby creating a strong foundation for replacement teeth or dentures. Dental implants can improve one’s ability to chew, prevent further bone loss, and improve self-esteem and confidence.
