NMDC celebrates International Women’s Day

Hyderabad: NMDC’s week-long festivities honouring women culminated today with the celebration of International Women’s Day at the NMDC headquarters, at Hyderabad.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest, Smt. T Meena Kumari, Retired Chief Justice of Meghalaya said, “Even today there is no gender equality in the society, this can impact on every aspect of life. Women need to find their own way in this male dominated society. They should be motivated for growth & empowerment and they are equally competent in almost every field to men.

Motivating the women employees on this occasion Shri N Baijendra Kumar, IAS, CMD, NMDC said “Women empowerment is the founding stone of society. I congratulate team NMDC who have put in a lot of thought and effort to celebrate this special day and womanhood. This initiative will be another stepping stone towards the objective of #HarEkKaamDeshKeNaam and showcase the #IspatiIrada of women of NMDC. Education and literacy is most important for women empowerment. To sustain this #IspatiIrada we have already initiated “happiness program” in NMDC. I believe a country is successful if its women are safe, strong and successful. This celebration is NMDC’s contribution to that idea.”

“NMDC providing opportunities for women apart from empowering women in the society through initiatives of CSR programmes such as Balika Shiksha Yojana and skill development programmes. Recently NMDC started ‘Men Take Lead’ programme to create awareness among women and young girls to counter poor and menstrual hygiene practices in the tribal areas” Shri N. Baijendra Kumar added.

The functional directors of NMDC Shri P.K. Satpathy, Director (Production) Shri Amitava Mukherjee, Director (Finance), Shri Alok Kumar Mehta, Director (Commercial), Shri Sumit Deb, Director (Personnel) also emphasised the importance of women in every men’s life and today women entrepreneurs are leading many organizations particularly in banking sector.

Prior to this Smt. G.E. Reeta, DGM(HRD) presented brief report on week long programmes being organized.

During this week NMDC organized several programmes for women employees, staff and trainees such as fruit distribution at Kasthurba Ashram – A home for destitute women, Games, Yoga/ Health Wellness programmes, display of posters and slogans in the premises to create the awareness, felicitation of nursing students who are being trained under Balika Shiksha Yojana and arranging motivational talks. Several renowned speakers shared their views on the theme of International Women’s Day 2020 i.e. ‘I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights.’ Trainee nursing students were felicitated during the week.

This event ended with various cultural programmes performed by women employees and apprentice girls. NMDC directors presented special mementoes to the women participants.
