The Oberoi Group commences selection process for its ‘Post Graduate Management Programmes’

The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development – developing the next generation of hoteliers for the Best Hotel Brand in the World

New Delhi: The Oberoi Group has commenced the selection process for its two year ‘Post Graduate Management Programme’ at The Oberoi Centre of Learning Development (OCLD).  The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development is in its 52nd year and the Guest Service Programme is not just a stepping stone to a job in hospitality but a firm foundation of a distinguished career with The Oberoi Group.

The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development has an 18-month Sales Management programme for graduates looking for a long term career in hospitality sales, as well.

In 1966, when Rai Bahadur M.S. Oberoi, Founder Chairman, The Oberoi Group established The Oberoi School of Hotel Management (OSHM) or The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development (OCLD) as it is now known, he recognised that the key to his philosophy of hotel keeping would be carefully selected and groomed managers who shared his obsession for guest satisfaction. In order to achieve this objective, he established The Oberoi School of Hotel Management as a corporate institution of learning, where young people could be groomed through a combination of academic instruction and comprehensive on-the-job experience.

Today, the Management Programme at The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development is considered amongst the best in Asia and is a benchmark for excellence within the hospitality industry.  The programme is designed to provide an opportunity to associates to grow personally and professionally. Associates are groomed through a combination of academic study and comprehensive on-the-job training. The objective of the programme is to develop the next generation of managers who will continue to practice and nurture the organisation’s people-focused approach to achieve the legendary Oberoi service excellence.

Mr. P.R.S. Oberoi, Executive Chairman, The Oberoi Group has always maintained that The Oberoi Group’s biggest asset is its people. “It is their efforts and passion that has resulted in Oberoi Hotels & Resorts being voted the Best Hotel Group by Telegraph Travel Awards, 2017. Oberoi Hotels & Resorts has also being voted one of the World’s Best Hotel Brand by Travel + Leisure, World’s Best Awards, 2018, for the fourth year in a row. The Oberoi Group has been ranked among ‘India’s Best Companies to Work For – 2018’ study by Great Place To Work® Institute (GPTW).  We are proud that our hotels are not only great places to stay, but also among the great places to work,” he says.

The mandate for The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development has been expanded to lead training and development interventions across all levels in the organisation.  The Systematic Training and Education Programme (STEP) is now the most coveted Undergraduate Programme for high school graduates seeking to take their first steps in the hospitality industry. In addition, the Supervisory Development Programme and the Executive Development Programme are specifically designed to equip hotel employees with the necessary competencies and skills to take on higher positions of responsibility within theorganisation.

Commenting on the Management Training Programme, Ms. Sangeetha Gandhi, Dean, The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development, said “The Management Programmes are a testament of The Oberoi Group’s commitment to selecting and training the best talent to be the next torch bearers of the organisation’s legacy.  We have instituted robust systems for the continued development, management and delivery of a globally benchmarked curriculum. The focus is not just on developing the technical competence of associates; for the curriculum also develops their personal attributes and leadership style. Above all, it inculcates in them the service values that ensure we continually endeavour to surpass our guests’ expectations. Moreover, since most of the Oberoi Group General Managers, senior executives and the entire faculty are graduates of The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development, there is a natural willingness to mentor, develop and facilitate learning for the next generation of hoteliers of The Oberoi Group.”
