On April 7, the conference “In Captivity of War” began its work
The Department of German and French Languages of the Institute of Foreign Languages of PetrSU annually holds a scientific and practical conference dedicated to the International Day of the Liberation of Prisoners of German-Fascist Concentration Camps.
This year the conference is held in a part-time format and has several working sites. The conference is attended by schoolchildren, teachers from Petrozavodsk and Moscow, students and teachers of PetrSU, guests from Germany, DonNACA ( Donbass National Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture) and others.
On April 7, Associate Professor of the Department of German and French Languages Ernest Iosifovich Tsypkin made a report “Soviet prisoners of war in the system of concentration camps in Nazi Germany” for students of PetrSU (profile “German and English”).
The listeners learned about the conditions of detention of prisoners in the camps of the Wehrmacht and the Gestapo camps, workers’ concentration camps and extermination camps, resistance groups, the fraternal union of prisoners of war. The lecturer turned to the history of such famous concentration camps as Mauthausen, Dora-Mittelbau, Auschwitz, Sobibor and others. The students heard the life stories of General D.M. Karbyshev, officer Alexander Aronovich Pechersky.
The leitmotif of Ernest Iosifovich’s story was the idea of a family history. What was the meaning of the “Missing” agenda for the family; how important documents from the times of the war are even now, for the descendants of those who survived these terrible events.
