Online meeting of students of PetrSU and MSU
An online meeting was held between students of Petrozavodsk State University and Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov in the TEDx format of the conference in English called “Intellectual Monday”.
1st year students of the Faculty of Law of the Moscow State University (MSU) named after M.V. M.V. Lomonosov and 1-2 courses of the Institute of Economics and Law of PetrSU (areas of study “Economics” and “Management”) met on the Zoom platform and shared their academic interests in the TED style.
The meeting was organized at the initiative of the teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Humanities of PetrSU T.M. Tatarina and L.N. Yusupova, as well as B.N. Arinova, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages, Faculty of Law, Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov.
The speeches aroused great interest of the audience, and an important part of the meeting was a discussion, during which the participants answered questions from their colleagues and teachers. It was a particularly rewarding experience for the students to train public speaking skills in an unfamiliar audience, as well as open discussion skills.
The topics of the speeches were multifaceted, which made the meeting special, because the participants had to deliver their report in an accessible language to a thematically unprepared audience. Narrow professional legal topics about the work of the legal profession in Russia and the United States, judicial ethics, jury trials, problems of international law regarding unrecognized states, child abuse and the death penalty. And also global problems that touch everyone: the extinction of marine animals, environmental problems and their impact on the economy, time as an economic resource, procrastination and digital addiction of adolescents.
For many participants, both the format itself and communication in English with students from another university became the first experience of this kind.
