POSHAN campaign: DIPR educates tribal people through Nukkad Natak, folksongs

 

KATHUA  : To aware the tribal people about Government of India’s flagship programme POSHAN (Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition), District Information Centre Kathua, in collaboration with Tribal Affairs Department and National Health Mission, today presented a Nukkad Natak and Folksong performances here at Government High School, Chack Handa, Marheen block.

The initiative of spreading word about Poshan Abhiyan was intended to improve the nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers belonging to marginalized communities who are highly vulnerable to malnutrition and other deficiency disorders as they are in oblivion about proper and balance diet.

During the awareness programme, the audience was sensitized about the importance of a balanced diet for the children, pregnant women and lactating mothers through Nukad Natak and folk performances.

The artists of nukkad natak threw light on benefit of breastfeeding to the newborn, holistic nutritional diet for lactating mothers, maintenance of hygiene, proper nutrition for pregnant women besides complimentary feeding for growing children.

Through their folk songs in local dialect, the artists appealed to the members of the tribal community to spread the message to their near and dear ones so that whole community could be benefitted.

After the conclusion of event, the community members appreciated the efforts of DIPR, NHM and tribal affairs department for spreading awareness through Nukkad natak in the language that they can comprehend easily.

Dr. Sushil Gupta of National Health Mission briefed the community members about taking balance diet and also keep an eye on the growing children regarding their nutritional needs as they need special attention during their phase of growth.

On the occasion Multivitamin, Iron Folic Acid tablets were also distributed.
