Potential for a Significant Increase in UrFU Students from South Africa

The Ural Federal University plans to recruit more students from the Republic of South Africa due to the growing trade turnover between South Africa and Russia and interest in the continent’s culture.

“The work of the Honorary Consulate itself creates favorable conditions for students from South Africa to come to Ekaterinburg. We see a lot of opportunities to develop our relations in education and sports,” Sergey Mazurkevich, the Honorary Consul of South Africa in Ekaterinburg, believes.

The diplomat was very positive about the proposals of the rector of the Ural Federal University, Victor Koksharov, regarding the Consulate’s participation in the humanitarian initiative of the university’s publishing house. The rector also suggested possible lectures and master classes for students.

“Our campus in the Novokoltsovsky district of Ekaterinburg opens up new opportunities for student recruitment. The university participates in key federal initiatives in science, education, and technology transfer, which creates conditions for students’ development,” Koksharov emphasized.

This year two students from South Africa entered UrFU: now they will study Russian in the Preparatory Department.
