President Droupadi Murmu has said that there is an urgent need to tackle the threat posed by climate change as it is more serious than expected.
The President was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the 18th National Scout and Guide Jamboree, at Rohat in the Pali district of Rajasthan today.
She said , the impact of rising temperatures, sea levels, and weather uncertainties is quite visible. Ms. Murmu stressed that Scouts and guides can play an important role in making the public aware of the corrective measures such as adopting renewable energy, reducing the carbon footprint, and promoting Sustainable Development Practices.
President Murmu said, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, Bharat Scouts and Guides have shown exemplary courage in serving society. She noted that they have acted as frontline COVID warriors. While admiring their efforts to contain COVID-19, she acknowledged their participation in creating awareness about Covid vaccination programmes across the country.
President Murmu said, this gathering of youth Jamboree is a symbol of a Mini Young India. Youth are the future builders of the nation and it is your responsibility to give a beautiful shape to the future of India, she added.
She mentioned that the country is celebrating the ‘Amrit Mahotsav of Independence’, and has entered the ‘Amrit Kaal’. Ms. Murmu called upon all Scouts and Guides to move forward towards a bigger goal to meet the future challenges facing society and the nation. She said, the world is changing fast and you have to be ‘future-ready’.
