Prof Asmar Beg becomes Dean of Social Sciences

ALIGARH  : Professor Mirza Asmar Beg, Department of Political Science, Aligarh Muslim University has been appointed as Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences for a period of two years with effect from June 26, 2022.

Professor Asmar, who specializes in strategic studies, joined the Department of Political Science in November 1988, became Reader in 1998 and was appointed Professor in 2004. His doctoral work received the ‘best dissertation prize’ by the American Studies Research Centre, Hyderabad for the year 1996.

He has a keen interest in electoral studies and Muslim politics in India and his research papers have been published in journals of eminence including The Round Table: The Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs, Economic and Political Weekly, Seminar, Humanities and Social Science Review, Studies in Indian Politics, South Asian Studies, Studies in Islam, Foreign Affairs Reports and Indian Journal of Politics, etc.

Professor Asmar has authored one book, “In the Tug-of-war” (Gyan Sagar Publications, New Delhi, 1999) and edited three volumes. He is on the editorial board of several international journals and has been a referee to quite a few journals. He is the coordinator of (UP West) for the academic surveys conducted by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies.
