PSPS Govt P G College for Women celebrates World Theatre Day

 

JAMMU : Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Govt. P.G. College for Women, Gandhinagar today celebrated “World Theatre Day” by staging a series of plays on diverse themes here in the college auditorium.

Principal of the College, Prof (Dr) Sangita Nagari was the Guest of Honour.

The students staged 5 plays based on diverse themes – Heer- Ranjha – Waris Shah, Do Behnein- Premchand, Mental Health, Old Age Homes and Importance of Culture.

Since 1962, theatre enthusiasts have been celebrating World Theatre Day every year on March 27 to highlight the importance of theatre art, its position in the sphere of entertainment and the transformations theatre brings to people’s lives. This year marks the 60th anniversary of World Theatre Day.

Dr Surjit Kour Raina, Convener, Literary Committee organised the event and Dr Jyoti Dutt was Organising Secretary, while Prof Chetna Mahajan acted as Coordinator and Prof Paramjeet Singh as Co-coordinator.

Around 40 students from different departments of the college enthusiastically participated and made the event a grand success.

The Principal of the College lauded the efforts made by the students. The staff members and the students of the College attended the programme and made the event a memorable one.

The senior faculty members Dr Suresh Bhat, Prof Renu Sehgal, Prof Safia Sheikh, Dr Rupinder Kour, Dr Seema Arora, Dr Renu Anand and Dr Shakun Mahajan appreciated the performances of the students.

Ojasvi Dubey and Amreen Iqbal were the anchors for the programme. The vote of thanks was presented by Amreen Iqbal.
