JAMMU : The Eco-Club, in collaboration with Department of Environmental Sciences of Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government P.G.College for Women Gandhi Nagar today organised a Cleanliness and Beautification Drive in the College premises under the aegis of “Action plan to eliminate Single use plastic waste”.

The program was held under the patronage of the College Principal, Dr. Sangita Nagari.

A group of 50 students participated in the hour long Cleanliness drive on the College campus. They cleaned the area around the college canteen, chemistry block and other adjoining blocks. The volunteers were carrying brooms and other cleaning equipment with a pledge to keep their surroundings clean.

Around 500 students prepared Ecobricks which were used for beautification of college gardens. The main purpose of preparing Ecobricks was to channelise the non recyclable plastic waste into some constructive work which could otherwise have ended up into the landfills. The Principal of the College, Dr.Sangita Nagari emphasised that the objective of organising such a programme was not just to clean the surroundings but to create awareness. She also appreciated the efforts of students who prepared Ecobricks using empty Pet bottles and non-recyclable plastic waste. She encouraged students to make more Ecobricks in future and use them in innovative ways in the College campus homes.

The events were successfully conducted under the guidance of Prof. Mala Bhasin, HOD Botany and coordinated by the members of the organizing committee Prof. Nisha Bhagat, Prof. Eisha Gohil, Prof. Shivani Sawhney, Prof. Sugandha Mahajan and Prof. Swarn Singh.
