RBL Bank’s Umeed 1000 Cyclothon culminates at IIM Amritsar
Amritsar: Indian Institute of Management, Amritsar had the privilege of hosting Umeed 1000 Cyclothon, a CSR initiative by RBL Bank on November 19, 2019.
UMEED 1000 Cyclothon is a unique awareness initiative that also raises funds to support Girl Child Education. Every year, a select set of cyclists cover a total of 1000 Kms to support the work of the non-profit partner, Udbhav School. In 2019, the cyclists covered a 1000 Kms stretch from Udaipur to Amritsar via Delhi under the leadership of lead cyclist and coach Mr. Jasmeet Singh Gandhi to raise funds.
IIM Amritsar also holds a sense of responsibility towards society. Sankalp- the social service club of IIM Amritsar provides a platform wherein the budding managers offer their voluntary service in various social initiatives undertaken. With the motto of “Service to those who serve others” Sankalp, is often involved in various activities throughout the year like blood donation, Stem cell donation awareness program, Education program for children from poor sections of the society, etc. Towards achieving its goal of inclusive education, IIM Amritsar also promotes gender diversity in its MBA programme.
The closing ceremony of UMEED Cyclothon was attended by Ms. Tamanna Bhatia, Renowned Actor Indian Cinema, Mr. Vishwavir Ahuja, Managing Director & CEO, RBL Bank, Mr. Shanta Vallury Gandhi, Head – HR, CSR & Internal Branding, RBL Bank, Mr. Jasmeet Singh Gandhi, Lead Cyclist, Mentor – UMEED 1000 Cyclothon, Mr. T. Muralidharan, Representative – IIM-A Alumni Association Trust, Sardar Navinderpreet Singh, Sr. Darbār Sahib, Manager Golden Temple Amritsar, Sardar Jaswinder Singh Deenpur, Sr. Darbār Sahib, Manager Golden Temple Amritsar.
Mr. Jasmeet S. Gandhi, a cycling enthusiast passionate towards contributing for girl child education, along with RBL Bank employees, led the Cyclothon to garner funds for Udbhav School in Hyderabad. Cyclothon, which was flagged off in Udaipur rallied across varied cities and finally culminated at Amritsar.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shanta Vallury Gandhi said that this year was special as this was the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev and 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Talking about UMMED 1000, she stated that it’s all about women empowerment, sustainable growth, education and health. An initiative which started in 2014, UMMED is an attempt to give back to the society. ‘Educate a girl, educate a nation’ is the personal motto which people at RBL bank follows.
Ms. Tamanna Bhatia addressed the audience by stating that she was extremely delighted to be a part of such a noble initiative. She said that the initiative is getting stronger and stronger and this was only possible due to courage of cyclists and constant support provided by RBL bank. She said that that it was a happy moment for all and that she is always ready to be part of an initiative which is related to girl education.
