Reasi KVK organizes Training Programme on Commercial Organic Farming
Reasi: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) today organized one day farmer training programme on commercial organic farming/natural farming/cow based economy/sustainable agriculture here at Talwara village.
The training programme was attended by a number of tribal farmers of the village. The programme was organised under the guidance of Director Extension (DE) of SKUAST-J, Dr.SK Gupta. Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal started the programme with the warm welcome of the farmers.
He gave a detailed view of principles of organic agriculture. He said that such programmes will help the farmers to commercialize the organic farming in the region and assist them to increase their organic crops production by providing the scientific guidelines on commercial organic farming.
He said that there is dire need to adopt the eco-friendly agricultural practices to protect our soil and environment health which further can help us to produce the healthy and safe food. He explained some important soil formulations for the enrichment of soil. He guided the farmers on crops productivity enhancement techniques while sustaining soil and ecosystem health through organic farming. He also explained the method of preparation of organic inputs like Panchgavaya, fermented butter milk, jeevamrit etc. used in organic farming.
He stressed on the use of Farm Yard Manures (FYM), vermicompost, biofertlizers, biofungicides, biopesticides, cow urine etc. in the soil for the commercial organic farming. He also spoke on crops rotation, pulses production, multiple cropping, microbial cultures etc. in the organic farming. He educated the farmers on the summer vegetables and suggested them the use of quality organic seeds for better performance. He also highlighted the use of organic fodder and good quality organic feed for the organic animal husbandry.
KVK officials along with the farmers also visited the fields of progressive farmers of the area and interacted with them for their success in organic farming. In these programmes various quarries were raised by the farmers which the KVK scientist answered in a satisfactorily way.
