Republic Day widely observed at AMU

Aligarh : Various faculties, departments, offices, residential halls and schools of Aligarh Muslim University observed the 74th Republic Day, with the unfurling of the national flag and holding of competitive literary and cultural events.

At the Women’s College, the Principal, Prof Naima Khatoon unfurled the National Flag and delivered a speech on preserving, protecting and upholding the sanctity of the Indian Constitution.

Prof Rakesh Bhargava (Principal and CMS, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College) unfurled the national flag.

The J N Medical College Society organized literary competitions on this occasion. Ebadat Eman Siddiqui was declared winner in an essay writing competition on “Patriots in Scrubs: Contributions of doctors during the adversity of Covid-19”, while Tahoora Khan emerged as the runner. Rafat Afreen became the winner in the Calligraphy competition and Aiman Fatima was declared as the runner. Syed Hilal Hussain won the prize for a logo design for the JNMC Society. A concert by the college band ‘Octaves’ and a play on the theme of fundamental rights were also organized during the celebrations.

Prof Veena Maheshwari (Dean, Faculty of Medicine) urged the students and faculty members to remain united even in tough times. Prof Haris M Khan (Medical Superintendent) and Prof Najam Khaliq (Treasurer, JNMC Society) also addressed the gathering.

Leading the celebrations at the Dr Z A Dental College (ZADC), Prof R K Tiwari (Principal) urged the faculty members and other staff to remember the sacrifices made by the heroes of the Country in giving us freedom and drafting the Constitution.

“It is because of our great leaders that today we enjoy our rights that came with the Constitution”, he added.

At the Abdullah Hall, Dr Ghazala Naheed (Provost) unfurled the National Flag followed by speeches by undergraduate students, Mehvesh Khanam and Hera Idris, respectively in English and Hindi languages. Fatima Firdaus recited a patriotic Urdu poem. Andleeb Anjum conducted the programme.

Prof Saira Mehnaz, Provost, Begum Sultan Jahan Hall, after unfurling India’s flag, highlighted the significance of the day in the history of the Indian nation.

Dr Nighat Rasheed narrated several historical anecdotes of the freedom struggle. Dr Nazia Tabassum concluded the programme with a vote of thanks.

Republic Day celebrations also took place at the Mohsinul Mulk Hall where Prof Mohd Ali Jauhar (Provost) unfurled the flag as wardens and staff members observed the occasion with pomp and gaiety.

After unfurling the national flag ceremony at the Sir Syed Hall-North, Prof Md. Tarique (Provost) urged the students to work hard to attain excellence in their studies as it was the best way on their part to pay to the nation.

At the Aftab Hall, Dr Mohammad Talha (Officiating Provost) unfurled the flag and spoke about how the Indian Constitution was framed and adopted in 1950.

Dr Shakeel Alvi, Officiating Principal, Saiyyid Hamid Senior Secondary School led the festivities at the school with the unfurling of the national flag. He urged the students and teachers to work for achieving excellence in education and maintain the highest level of discipline in the school. Mrs Sadia Nasir conducted the programme.

At the Senior Secondary School (Girls), the Principal, Ms Naghma Irfan, after unfurling the national flag, urged all to work for nation-building and meaningfully contribute to the unity and integrity of the country. Students also delivered speeches on the occasion patriotic songs were presented, besides plantation by teachers, students and non-teaching staff.

Similarly, at the Ahmad School for the Visually Challenged, Dr Naila Rashid (Principal) unfurled the flag. Atifa and Ghulam Hussain Khan delivered speeches in Hindi and English, respectively.

Besides organizing a marathon race on January 23, friendly cricket matches between different houses and between teaching and non-teaching staff were played in which Orange House and non-teaching staff team emerged as winners. In a patriotic song competition, Alfia Khan, Gauri Chaudhary and Priya won the first, second and third prizes, respectively.

At the AMU Girls’ School, Principal, Amna Malik unfurled the flag and spoke on the need for maintaining the unity and integrity of the country.

After the flag unfurling ceremony at the Abdullah School, Umra Zaheer (School Superintendent) delivered a talk on the importance of Republic Day.

Zaina Rashid, Abdullah Imran and Abeer Mustafa spoke on the occasion respectively in English, Urdu and Hindi.

Dr Samina (Principal, AMU ABK High School), after unfurling the national flag, said Republic Day is the day to reaffirm our commitment to unity in diversity, fraternity and equality among all our citizens.

In his Republic Day speech at the AMU City Girls High School, Qazi Para, Dr Md Alamgir (Principal) spoke on the significance of rights and duties enshrined in the Constitution and urged all to work for strengthening the unity and integrity of the country.

At the STS School, Chief Guest Prof. Hammad Usmani (Director MAS) unfurled the national flag and underlined the salient features of the constitution and urged all to promote the idea of social justice, liberty of thought and expression, equality of status and opportunity.

Prof Anwar Shahzad was the guest of honour.

Principal, Mr Faisal Nafis urged all to maintain high degree of respect for the constitution and perform their duties towards the nation with dedication.

School students, Sarwar Alam and Rayyan Asif gave speeches in Urdu and English, respectively.

At the Indira Gandhi Hall, Provost Prof. Sheeba Hamid unfurled the flag who talked about the importance of the constitution of India and stressed the need to instil a sense of patriotism in students.

An undergraduate student, Tuba Rehman delivered a speech in English, Aqsa spoke in Hindi and Nada Fatima spoke in Urdu. A group of students presented a patriotic song. Sophia and Afiya presented a patriotic song while Mariyam Khan read out the Preamble of the constitution. Sukanya Choudhary conducted the programme.

The students and faculty members at the National Service Scheme (NSS) of the university also observed the occasion with the unfurling of the National Flag by Dr Arshad Husain (Programme Coordinator).
