Research Methodology Workshop concludes in Aligarh Muslim University
Aligarh: “Universities and their departments of studies are judged and valued on the basis of the research performance and teaching standard, therefore high quality and original research works is of paramount importance”, said Dr Shakeel Ahmad, Additional Secretary, University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, while addressing the valedictory function of the national workshop on Research Methodology and Research Ethics, as chief guest, organised by the Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh.
Dr Shakeel Ahmad urged the participants of the workshop, especially faculty members to submit research proposals under different new research schemes launched by various funding agencies.
Describing his long experience of research and administrative work in academic institutions, he said, such workshops are very helpful in guiding research scholars and grooming students.
Guest of Honour, Prof SP Singh, (Department of Humanities, University of Roorkee) appreciated and praised the Department of Geography for its academic excellence. He said that research is based on concepts, thought, ideas, shifting paradigms, visualization of tangible and non-tangible changes in nature and society. Techniques and methodology are weapons of research, he added.
Twenty-one day long (9-30 November, 2019) workshop was sponsored by the University?s UGC-HRDevelopment Centre.
The programme was coordinated by Prof Nizamuddin Khan, under the guidance of Prof AR Kidwai, Director, UGC-HRD centre.
Welcoming the guests, Prof Ateeque Ahmad (Chairperson, Department of Geography) said, the workshop is significant for harnessing research skills of the young scholars.
Prof AR Kidwai appreciated the efforts of the Coordinator and Chairperson of the department for organising the programme in a very systematic way. He urged the participants to do quality research and publish their research in high indexed and high impact journals.
Prof Qazi Mazhar Ali, (Dean Faculty of Sciences) emphasized on the need to integrate between qualitative and quantitative techniques of research for a rational and impactful research. He also advised the scholars to use latest software for effective research outcomes.
Presenting a brief report of the workshop, Prof Nizamuddin Khan, (Coordinator of the workshop), said that the workshop was completed in 21 working days in 63 sessions. 26 resource persons from different disciplines delivered lectures on different issues of research methodology and research ethics. Nine resource persons were from Geography, followed by three each from Statistics, and Political Science; two each from Economics and Agricultural Economics; and one each from Botany, Psychology, Geology, Library and Information Science, Civil Engineering and Unani Medicine. Participants were from Geography, Law, Political Science, Sociology, History, Sanskrit, Geology, Agriculture, Botany, Education and West Asian Studies, he added.
