RMIT: RMIT celebrates 35 years in Singapore

A key feature of the week’s celebration included the conferral of more than 1,500 graduates across three events attended by the Vice-Chancellor and members of his Executive.

Together, RMIT and SIM have educated close to 50,000 alumni and will soon welcome a fifth generation of learners in Singapore.

Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Alec Cameron said for a university of technology, design and enterprise, Singapore was a very exciting place to be.

“Over recent decades, RMIT has built a network, indeed an ecosystem, connected throughout this region and our presence right here is key to that, he said

“We remain committed to serving Singapore and its reach as a leader in Asia, helping to drive educational, social, and economic development both locally and across the region.

“The world will be looking to the great minds of Singapore to help us move beyond the shadow of public health emergencies, economic challenges, evolving geopolitical dynamics and in truly complex times – our connected contributions are more critical than ever.”

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Global and Vice-President Professor Peter Coloe, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education and Vice-President Professor Sherman Young and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Business and Law Professor Julie Cogin joined Mr Seah Chin Siong, SIM President and Chief Executive Office at the graduation ceremonies.


The week’s activities also included a celebratory dinner at the Australian High Commissioner’s residence for alumni, VIPs and sponsors, joined by Charge of Australia to Singapore (Deputy Head of Mission), Ms Angela Robinson, and SIM’s Chairman Ms Euleen Goh. Perspectives around Singapore’s Digital Transformation landscape and RMIT’s support were also shared at a Digital Transformation round-table with alumni and industry.

RMIT’s 35-year partnership with SIM has been the cornerstone of RMIT’s global expansion, providing the University with a platform to successfully offer transnational education across Asia and into Europe.
