RMIT’s dual degree program to commence in India

Australia’s first dual degree program with India will commence this year, in an exciting new higher education venture.

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS) and RMIT have partnered to deliver the first dual degree program between India and Australia.

Commencing in mid-2023, the BITS-RMIT Higher Education Academy (The Academy) aims to provide high-quality transnational education to Indian students and facilitate significant regional collaboration with India.

Professor Alec Cameron, Vice-Chancellor and President RMIT University visited India as part of the Australian education delegation to sign the new partnership between BITS and RMIT alongside Education Ministers and to witness the significant milestone for the bilateral relationship. 

The Academy will initially offer four undergraduate engineering programs through a dual degree and a PhD program. Students will begin their learning at BITS followed by two years at RMIT in Melbourne with potential for a career in Australia or India.

RMIT academics will also get the opportunity to deliver learning at BITS.

RMIT Vice-Chancellor and President Alec Cameron said The Academy marks a strategic step in strengthening RMIT’s profile and presence in India through partnering with a high-performing university.

“The Academy reinforces RMIT’s position as a leading university of impact in the Asia Pacific,” said Cameron.

The Academy will be deeply connected to industry and focused on cross-cultural experiences and graduate outcomes, drawing on the combined strengths of the two institutions.
